South Sri Lanka Tour Duration: 8 Days Tour Explore the divine splendor of this land, enjoy in the silver sandy beaches and warm serene blue seas, in the ancient cities, in the garden and wildlife parks and everyplace you walk on. The island will take you to an excursion of the Elysian fields on earth. Day 1 Colombo On arrival at the airport you are driven to your hotel. In afternoon get ready for your half-day sight trip of the commercial capital of the country. A tour of Colombo leaves you enraptured at the Fort, which is the heart of the city and also treasures much of the colonial legacies; visit Cinnamon Gardens and the most eminent residential area which is embellished with the palatial buildings of Sri Lanka's ruling celebrities. In evening enjoy shopping at Pettah, the most important shopping hub in the city. Over night at the hotel. Day 2 Colombo-Galle-Hambantota After breakfast you leave Colombo and head off towards the south. Driving along the coastal areas enjoy the sight of famous beach resorts like Kalutara, Beruwala, Bentota and Hikkaduwa. Don't miss the glimpse of "toddy taper" who climb high up the coconut trees to collect the milky juice of the coconut blossom. The picturesque beauty of the tranquil palm fringed coastline itself is a delightful experience. After lunch proceed to the erstwhile colonial city of Galle glittering with the Old Dutch Fort and unique structures native to the colonial era. Reach the southernmost edge of the island at Dondora, continue further eastwards along the wide, sandy beaches, you will come across many salt fields from where sea water salt is manufactured. After a pretty long drive through barren countryside you arrive at your hotel in Hambantota. Dinner and overnight stay either at the Peacock Beach Hotel or Hotel Oasis, Hambantota. Day 3 Hambantota- Nuwara Eliya Early in the morning enjoy the breaking of the day from the hotel lawn or try out a photo safari at the nearby Bundala game sanctuary. After lunch start your journey through a dry forest area. Wellawaya is a gateway to the hills comprising of tea plantation zone. You will also come across rice fields and vegetable gardens in the nearby villages. Finally, in the evening, after passing Bandarawela perched at an altitude of 1200m, you arrive at the Nuwara Eliya-a ravishing resort town. Cherish the panoramic luster of mountains girdled by tea plantations and the beautiful lake at Nuwara Eliya. Other attraction of the town is its vegetable plantations and flowerbeds. For dinner and overnight stay you are at Hotel Windsor or at the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya. Day 4 Nuwara Eliya- Kandy After breakfast in the hotel you bid goodbye to Nuwara Eliya and after a short drive upwards, reach the Ramboda pass that is at an altitude of 2,200 m. Stop at the tea factories and discover how tea is manufactured from the green leaves. By the noon reach the royal city of Kandy perched at an altitude of 500m. The city is situated amidst the sylvan hills and is sanctified with an artificial lake at the center. In the late afternoon, embark upon a short tour of the city that includes a visit to the temple of the tooth relic. You will also visit a lapidary and enjoy the Kandya dances and devil dances. Dinner at the hotel with overnight stay. Day 5 Kandy - Dambulla - Dambulla or Sigiriya Early morning after breakfast, visit the world famous Botanical Garden embellishing with diverse variety of exotic orchids, spice trees, palms and flowers. The garden dates back to the reign of King Vikrama Bahu, 1371 and was later renovated by the British in 1821. Later, visit the Raja Maha Vihara temple complex and Dambulla- the most captivated of all cave temples in Sri Lanka and dates back to the 1st century BC, with the carved statues of Lord Buddha and Hindu deities. Enjoy the paintings adorning the ceiling of the caves, depicting pictures from the life of Buddha. After this visit, you will be driven to your hotel in Dambulla or Sigiriya for dinner and overnight stay. Day 6 Dambulla/Sigiriya - Sigiriya Rock - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla/Sigiriya Today you are going to visit the Sigiriya Rock rising 200 m out of the jungle at the threshold and is also declared as the 8th wonder of the world. You will be captivated at the sight of the lion staircase, the gardens, the alluring frescoes painted on the rock. After lunch, start your journey towards Polonnaruwa, the capital of the Singhalese kings from 11th century to the 13th century. Here the well-preserved remains of this medieval city include temples, the royal palace and the royal library. You will be wonder-struck at the sight of the city's superb irrigation system with many artificial tanks inter linked with channels. After the visit you return to your hotel for dinner and night stay. Day 7 Dambulla/Sigiriya- Anuradhapura- Colombo Morning proceed for Anuradhapura, the original capital of Sri Lanka. Here you will be delighted to see some of the tallest dagobas and remnants of monasteries, temples, palaces and ceremonial baths. Your tour ends by paying a visit to the temple of the sacred Bo tree. On the way back you have a delicious Sri Lankan cuisine and enjoy the fabulous drive past the picturesque paddy cultivation and coconut and rubber plantations, you are back in Colombo.
